What is Cathodic Electrophoretic Painting?

Cathodic electrophoretic painting is a versatile and cost effective electrochemical dip painting procedure, in which the items to be coated are dipped into an electrically conductive dip paint. Organic coating is then applied to the items using a current and the paint particles are settled with a positive charge. To prep the item being dipped, a low zinc phosphating treatment is applied to ensure the surface is clean and the construction of the bonding agent between the item and the paint is there.

There are a few benefits to cathodic electrophoretic painting including better coating in narrow spaces, improved corrosion protection, and a thinner coating. It is also durable and is known for its ability to stand up against weathering and harsh chemicals. The process also guarantees complete coverage and thickness that is consistent, and the cathodic electrophoretic painting is environmentally friendly, containing no volatile compounds or hazardous air pollutants.

The primary use of cathodic electrophoretic painting is within the automotive industry, making cars and other vehicles stronger against harsh conditions but indoors and outdoors. However, many other sectors also benefit from it. Cathodic electrophoretic painting is the most commonly used technique now, but the other less used type of electrocoating is anodic, which was the first to be commercially developed.

How Does Powder Coating Work?

Powder Coating is the process of applying powder to a substrate that is conductive and electrically charging powder particles at the substrate, which is oppositely charged by a direct current. The finished paint leaves a high aesthetic look that has improved durability to impact and fading or corrosion.

The Benefits of Shot Blasting

Shot blasting is a cleaning process that propels abrasive material with mechanical or centrifugal force. It’s intended to remove debris and oxides off the surface of another material using spherical shot. Shot blasting is used to clean a variety of metals, including stainless steel, copper, and aluminium. The benefits of shot blasting include:

-Environmentally Friendly: As shot blasting is done without any acid or harsh chemicals, using only pellets and any dust created from the process is quickly suctioned away with a machine designed to clean it up.

-Prepares a Surface: Once a metal surface has been treated with shot blasting, it will be able to hold a layer of paint or other coating better than untreated metal. This helps the coating or paint last for much longer.

-Reveals Defects: Any issues on the metal surface can be revealed with shot blasting and the blasting area can be redirected to fix the issues or find out if the problem runs deeper than just a surface issue.

-Fast: Using shot blasting to clean and smooth a metal surface is up to 75% faster than other traditional methods available, saving both time and money in the long run.
