What Services We Offer

At The Yorkshire Lime Company Ltd, based in Featherstone, West Yorkshire, we offer a comprehensive range of specialist services focused on historic building restoration and heritage conservation, designed to meet the unique needs of older properties. Our expert team of heritage builders is dedicated to preserving the authenticity and structural integrity of traditional buildings, ensuring their longevity for future generations. One of our core services is lime mortar pointing, which is essential for older structures, as it allows the building to "breathe" by preventing moisture from being trapped, thus protecting the walls from damage caused by damp. This is especially important for properties built before the 1900s, where modern cement-based mortars can cause more harm than good.

In addition to lime mortar pointing, we specialise in conservation masonry and heritage brick layering, using traditional building techniques and materials that are sympathetic to the original construction of each property. Whether it's restoring aged brickwork or ensuring that stone features are properly repaired, our team takes great care in selecting the appropriate materials and applying the right methods to retain the character and beauty of your building. Another key service we offer is render removal, where we carefully strip away modern, often damaging finishes to reveal and protect the original surfaces, allowing them to breathe and reducing the risk of moisture retention.

For structural repairs, we offer lintel installation, ensuring that openings such as windows and doors remain stable and secure while maintaining the building's historical accuracy. Our lime torching service provides roof insulation using a traditional method that incorporates lime and animal hair, ideal for buildings like barns and cottages, which require moisture control while ensuring warmth. This technique allows buildings to retain heat without trapping moisture, keeping the roof structure in good condition.

As part of our commitment to preserving traditional skills, we also offer heritage skills training. We believe in passing on the knowledge of these invaluable techniques to apprentices and those seeking to learn more about the craft. This ensures that the future of historic building restoration remains secure, and that the knowledge and expertise behind lime mortar pointing, heritage brick layering, and other traditional methods are preserved for generations to come. Whether you're undertaking a large-scale restoration or focusing on specific repairs, our services are tailored to meet the needs of your heritage property in Featherstone, West Yorkshire, and we pride ourselves on delivering work that respects the history and character of each building.

Quality Lime Torching
by Sarah

The Yorkshire Lime Company have been absolutely brilliant as they have just spent 9 weeks working on our Grade II* listed Westgate Unitarian Chapel using hot lime pointing, and lime torching, as well as working with our architects and Historic England who, after inspecting their work said they had never seen such good heritage pointing. I would thoroughly recommend Lee Gillard and his team as absolute experts in their field. The Yorkshire Lime Company went the extra mile to save our chapel wall when we realised the Victorian mortar was destroying the Georgian Bricks!

Professional Chimney Repairs
by Laura

Lee and his team have done a great job repointing our chimney stack and we finally have a dry house after heavy rain. There were numerous delays due to scaffolding, weather, etc, but The Yorkshire Lime Company stuck with us. It was great to see Lee passing on his knowledge to his team.
