Advice for Small and Large Business

No matter how small or large your business is, staying up and running during this time hasn’t been easy. With lockdowns forcing many businesses to shut, rules and regulations that have massively changed the way businesses run, it most definitely has not been an easy year. Our advice to those small and large businesses who may be feeling overwhelmed with the current situation or are looking for ways to keep their business going during Covid-19, is to stay strong. We are closer to the end than we are the beginning. So whether your business is currently open or has been forced to close, we hope that our advice and sharing our 5 ways to protect your business during Covid-19 helps you in some way.

1. Stay Positive

The number one, and the most important point we have to say is to stay positive. Try not to let your mind wander too much and stay focussed on the positives. This could be that you’re still making sales, or that hopefully, the end is near. Each morning, or whenever you need it most, tell yourself that this situation is only temporary and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

2. Be Creative

The past year hasn’t been smooth running for many of us. For businesses, to say it has been difficult is an understatement. We have seen many lockdowns, tiers, rules, regulations and that’s not even it all. It’s meant that we’ve all had to adapt, even online companies to try and find new ways to market themselves. So, you need to be prepared to think outside the box on what it is you can do; to adapt to these changes, thinking of new ways to get your business noticed and maintain customer orders and sales. So, whether you’re an online accountant or in-store IT support company, now is the time to think outside the box, use this time to your advantage. Look for ways that you could turn this situation around into a positive to make your business benefit. This could be offering different types of services or adapting your current point of sale to be more suitable. You could even look at what your competitors are doing, not to steal ideas but to get a better sense of what is happening in the world and what is or isn’t working. Another thing to consider is getting more active on social. Now more than ever social media advertising is growing, so it’s time to get your business out there. Regardless of the industry you’re in, there are so many social channels available that you could be benefitting from. It’s an easy, none pushy sales technic that has been working for many years. Not only that, but videos and channels like YouTube and TikTok are becoming more popular than ever as people like to watch business videos. It’s something that more people are finding interesting and is a good way to pass time. So let’s make the most of it!

3. Take This Time To Think

If like many business owners, your mind is constantly going 50mph, you may want to take this time to stop for a moment. Think about what it is you want from your business, consider new ideas for the future, and look at ways to adapt your business to be Covid friendly. You may want to do a mindmap to think of new ideas for the future of your business, or any changes you wish to make now that’ll help boost your business during this time. So, now you have the chance and the time, be sure to take a moment out to think about your business’s future, maybe even plan your next few years as this will help to set your goals.

4. Health and Safety

When it comes to health and safety, there are no shortcuts or ways out. Especially now, you need to be doing everything you can to protect yourself, your employees and your customers. This could mean that your shop now becomes more Covid safe with visors or maximum visitors at one time, or that an office is spaced out to meet the latest regulations. All in all, the health and safety in your workplace must meet normal practice and the Government regulations against Covid-19. This will give great reassurance to your employees and customers should they need to visit your premises or purchase anything from you.

5. Look at Your Finances

This may be something you have been putting off or trying to avoid, but it needs to be done. Take a look at your financial situation. Make sure that you are still above board and evaluate your outgoings. Many businesses over the past year will of been taking risks, seeing huge impacts and even taking out business loans to see them through, so whatever you see it’s not to be afraid of. It can be worked on and resolved. The sooner you evaluate your finances and keep a regular track of cashflow the better. Not forgetting that some businesses have also thrived over the past year, so don’t be afraid to take the leap if your idea is worth it!
