First Base Freight, a family run operation have been shipping vehicles for over 30 years and have much experience. The managing director, Nicola G.Laycy has a background in working for a number of blue chip freight forwarding companies and has extensive knowledge in both the commercial and private sector. Alec Laycy the husband of Nicola is the transport and logistics manager who sees to the everyday operations. Shane Conway the son of Nicola and Alec is an expert in the out of gauge cargo and specialises in the shipment of heavy plant machinery worldwide. Joanna the logistics operator has worked closely with Nicola for over 4 years and assists with UK customs clearance, quotations and logistics for both exports and imports in to the UK.
First Base Freight was set up by Nicola G.Laycy in 2009 to help the private sector benefit from the same rates and expertise as the commercial sector. Both Alec and Nicola have a passion for cars and trucks that dates back decades and saw that this was the perfect opportunity to help private individuals looking to ship their vehicle overseas benefit from the commercial rates on offer.
Daily tasks vary from day to day, one day you can be quoting for new shipments or completing the UK customs clearance paperwork required by phone and email, other days you can be arranging vehicle collections and finalising the shipping documentation. No two days are ever the same when it comes to car shipping as some people require their vehicle to be shipped by container whilst others insist on roll on/roll off. The ability to multi-task is a great advantage as you can be loading containers one day and unloading on the next.
Our services include roll on/roll off shipping – these purpose built vessels can only be described as a floating car park but are the most economical way of shipping a smaller vehicle such as saloon car or a 4 x 4 by sea. We also offer 20ft/40ft and 40ft HC container shipping services from anywhere throughout the UK, Wales and Scotland for vehicles, household goods and commercial cargo. For certain destinations we also offer the R Rack service where we load 3-4 vehicles in a 40ft HC container, this is where we co-load with our other customers vehicles to save costs to all. We also offer multi vehicle car transporter services for both UK, France and Spain every week. We can even arrange for UK vehicle collection and delivery services, low loader collections and hiab deliveries.
