Dolphin Networks is our brand new Business Of The Month. We sat down with the owner (Andy) and asked him a few questions.
From around the mid 1990’s, I worked as a self employed IT contractor. The roles varied somewhat from support, development, hardware, software etc. Moving into around 2010 I specialised in SharePoint development and consulting as well as business intelligence.
I studied and qualified for an IT Solution Architecture qualification, as well as Microsoft Certification Exams. From 2010, I moved from being a contracted consultant to running my own consultancy, where I initially based myself out of home.
As things became busier and I attracted more clients, I moved into serviced offices at the Surrey Research Park in Guildford, and employed some like-minded developers and consultants to service our now, quite large number of clients.
We begin each morning with a brief catch-up on what the days tasks are for each person. We raise any issues or problems that might need to be looked into. My day is often busy with a lot of online meetings, or visits to client sites. The core of our business is focussed around systems development, and as such the staff here will quickly settle into their own individual development tasks. As the owner of the business I mix my skills from sales, consulting and system architecture, to some development tasks as well as running the business as a whole.
I really enjoy working with the clients and designing solutions that will service their needs as a business as well as look for ways in which to improve their efficiency and value for money that they gain from their IT software expenditure.
We win a lot of new business from referrals, and as such client satisfaction and feeling that we have done a good job for our clients is essential to the business.
We focus strongly on Microsoft products and platforms. Namely, SharePoint, Office 365, Azure, SQL Server and .NET. The services we offer around these technologies is a mix of consulting and developing as well as support, HelpDesk and training.
The technologies that we deal with are always changing in terms of functionality and service offering, and as such we need to stay up to date with our knowledge and skills in these areas in order to efficiently service our clients.
One of the main focusses that tie together all the services we offer is around business process management. This is where we use a mix of SharePoint, Business Intelligence, O365 and back end platforms such as Azure to provide businesses with a holistic platform that they can use to service many of their business functions and applications. That’s where companies will really begin to see value for money.
